Meditation Pick 1

A few years ago while living in DC, I decided I wanted to try yoga for my birthday. I had always heard good things from folks who did yoga on a regular basis. Most said that although it could be complicated depending on the style, it was good for the body, relaxing, a great way to stay fit, and promotes control of the mind and body. I figured that while I work out on a regular basis and am pretty flexible, I really wanted to gain more control of my mind, so I signed up for a class on my birthday. I went to the class with a great attitude but shortly realized this was much harder than I expected. I spent most of the time looking at the instructor trying to do the positions correctly. I finished the class but needless to say, I never got the connection with my mind/soul that I was hoping for.

Now years later, I am still looking for that connection with my mind/soul. So when I heard about the Oprah/Deepak Chopra 21 Day Meditation Challenge, I knew I had to sign up.  All the folks I know have never tried meditation so I had to do some research on my own. Deepak Chopra defines meditation as the widening of the mind till it reaches the source of the spirit – which is the soul of the spirit.  He says we should do it because it is the most effective way to manage stress (improve mental and physical health), and opens the door to your spirit, soul and creativity.

So, starting Monday, August 5, 2013, I will be taking part in the 21-day challenge.  My goal is still the same as it was a few years ago in DC: to have a better connection with my mind/soul and spirit.I have two things to ask of you. One, let me know if you have tried meditation and share your feelings/outcomes and two post pics of you in your favorite meditation pose to my blog, facebook or twitter page!

I am so excited to be doing this and most importantly to be sharing it with you! Let’s GO!!
